Children’s Monochrome Bedroom – Z’s Room

Today I thought I’d share with you my interiors for Z’s bedroom. So after doing a fair amount of research on the internet world wide web machine, I decided to go for a monochrome look. I love children’s monochrome bedrooms, they look contemporary and stylish. Even for a 3 year old! And the great thing about monochrome bedrooms is that as your child grows, the room can grow with them. Subtle changes like adding colour, art or rugs, can change the look and feel of the room. So there’s no need to completely change the interiors as they get older.

Having spent many hours on Pinterest (again!) I set my heart on painting mountains in Z’s room. But convincing Willis I wanted to paint them black didn’t go down too well… Surprise, surprise! His initial response was ‘he’s not a goth’!  Seriously, does it really have to be this hard?

So after convincing Willis black mountains would look good and on the promise that if he really hated them I’d paint over them immediately (yeah right!), I set myself the task of painting them myself. Eeek! Yes, you heard that correctly, me with a paint brush. Doesn’t sound quite right, does it?

But painting the mountains in Z’s room was pretty easy. I started out old skool by drawing the mountains with a pencil and large ruler. And what a faff that was! I spent the first hour rubbing off the pencil markings and starting again and again. So, being the impatient person that I am, I thought sod this for a laugh, ditched the pencil and ruler and used frog tape and my eye as a guide. And for those of you that have never used frog tape, you’re seriously missing out! It’s like the Rolls Royce of masking tape. I can’t get enough of it. I love the stuff!! It’s super easy to use and the paint doesn’t bleed when you peel the tape off. So, for a complete novice like me it was an absolute God send.

So after just a few hours, my mountains were finished. It was that simple. Even for me. And I finally finished them off with some white snow peaks to break up the black. Voila, job done!

So here they are, not quite a Michelangelo masterpiece, but I think they look pretty good for a first timer. What do you think? x
