Geometric Tiles – My Bathroom Update (Part 2)

Geometric tiles

Phew! After an exhausting 6 months of convincing Willis that gold taps are good, choosing bathroom tiles was a breeze in comparison. In my search I knew I wanted something that expressed my personality and style, something that looked modern and luxe. So there was no question the floor tiles had to be patterned.

Initially, I wanted the gold taps to be the star of the show but after looking at pattern floor tiles, I was left in a bit of a quandary. Help!! I was torn between my love of gold taps versus my love for pattern tiles. Check out my post on gold taps. Could I really have two statement pieces competing for the same attention? Will it look OTT? Or will it just end up looking like something out of the set of Dallas? (No offence Sue Ellen!). The questions were hitting me hard.

Then I stopped and asked myself, why can’t I have both? Greedy I know. But I couldn’t seem to find a logical answer. So what’s stopping me? Apart from Willis that is. So I thought f**k it and threw out the ‘rule book’ and decided to go for geometric tiles anyway.

I’ve always loved geometric tiles, they represent modernism at it’s best. And teamed up with the right accessories they speak 1920’s glamour all over. Seriously, you can’t get any more Vogueish than this. I love it!!

And let’s not forget him indoors. Selling the idea of geometric tiles to Willis was easy. Maybe a little too easy in my eyes. Smiling lots! He works in graphic design so appreciates the details in creating a 3D design. Personally, I’m less interested in all that kinda stuff, as long as it looks good, then that’s good enough for me. So getting Willis on board was a doddle. If only agreeing interiors was this easy, life would be so much simpler, well for me anyway!

So after doing a fair amount of research on the web (you’ve got to check out Ruth’s bathroom from Design Soda, it amazing!!!) I found the Mosaic Del Sur a company in London, who specialise in encaustic tiles. And OMG!! Their range of tiles is mind blowing! You can get just about any design in any colour and in any shape from square, diamond to hexagonal. The choice is endless.

In the end I chose a traditional geometric pattern in black, navy and white. I played it safe. I could’ve been more adventurous with the colour combo, but I wanted to keep him indoors happy, especially after the gold tap debacle! Note to self: in life you need to choose your battles carefully and this was one of those moments.

So finally here they are, my geometric floor tiles teamed up with my gold taps. What do you think?
